"Enabling Australia to adapt more effectively to the impacts of climate change and variability and informing national planning, regulation and investment decisions."
CSIRO's Climate Adaptation Flagship is a portfolio of research initiatives focused on developing strategies to both adapt to the expected damaging effects of climate change and capitalise on the opportunities that change can bring. Our partners are other researchers, government and businesses who work to inform decisions that reach into the future with the best current understanding of climate impacts and adaptation options.
The four key themes of the Flagship are founded on creating pathways to adaptation, which provides accessible insights into climate and adaptation patterns in the physical world and society. Australian population is clustered around cities and coasts so Flagship researchers are developing planning, design, infrastructure and management solutions based on urban systems and coastal processes.
We are working to understand marine and terrestrial ecosystems and the services they provide, and developing and delivering adaptation options to protect them from the impacts of climate change. The Climate Adaptation Flagship is developing options for adaptive primary industries, enterprises and communities to reduce the vulnerabilities and enhance opportunities created by climate change and variability.
We will be co-hosting an international conference, Climate Adaptation Futures: Preparing for the unavoidable impacts of climate change, in June with Australia's National Climate Change Adaptation Research Facility (NCCARF).
