We are playing an essential role in researching and developing technologies to achieve the objective of near zero emissions from the use of energy worldwide.

CSIRO is undertaking a broad solar research program to facilitate a transition to increased reliance on renewables based energy supplies in the future.

Climate adapted buildings and sustainable cities are the focus of CSIRO research to be presented at the World Sustainable Building Conference (SB08) in Melbourne next week.

Australia is not in a position to reliably track changes in its environment caused by climate change and other threats due to a lack of critical ‘baseline’ data and long-term monitoring programs, according to three experts quoted in the latest issue of Ecos (143, June-July 2008).

In 2005-06, CSIRO Solar Car Motor Kits have been ordered by solar car development teams from seven countries.

CSIRO exploits the most advanced concepts in magnetic materials, electromagnetics applied magnetics and drives. We are reducing energy use and greenhouse gas emissions by designing and developing energy-efficient electric machines and drives.
 

We use ESM to determine the impact of potential future events, policies and technology breakthroughs on the uptake of new technologies in electricity generation and road transport.

The National Solar Energy Centre (NSEC) comprises a high concentration tower solar array that can generate 500 kW of energy, and a low concentration linear array for solar thermal energy as shown in this video. (5:00)
